Wataru Hatano: Handmade Paper

Jan. 10 - Jan. 29, 2020
FRIDAY- WEDNESDAY 11:00 - 18:30

We are pleased to hold the exhibition of Wataru Hatano who makes handmade Japanese paper in Ayabe City, Kyoto. Ayabe is well known for traditional handmade paper called “washi” in Japanese. Wataru Hatano cultivates by himself the mulberry trees used to make his paper works. He conveys the charm of “washi” with products that can be used daily like boxes, coasters, and boards. In recent years, he has been working on interior spaces such as houses and shops, and two-dimensional works. By doing so, he is expanding the possibilities of “washi”. In this exhibition, a wide range of works including dyed papers, various sized boxes, and two-dimensional works, will be presented.
